Eagles Take Marcus Smith Out Of Louisville
The Eagles came into this draft with a few needs and it was clear that they needed a pass rusher. To address the need, the Eagles took Marcus Smith LB/DE out of Louisville.
On a night that presented the Eagles with an opportunity to select Johnny Manziel at 22, the Birds decided to drop back and take Smith at 26. The Eagles needed a player who was ready to step in and play in a 3-4 system and Smith will give them that type of piece.
Smith is 6’3, 251. Smith played as a linebacker and defensive end in college after playing QB in high school. Smith was seen as a second day pick, but the Eagles clearly decided to draft for need.
Smith is a pass rushing specialist and that is it. He recorded 14.5 sacks and led the nation in sacks per games average (1.12) as a senior.
With no wide receiver in town to replace Jackson and Avant, it will be interesting to see how many receivers the Birds look at with their 2nd round pick and their two 3rd round picks.
