Eagles Find New Punter; World Shrugs

The Eagles have parted ways with Mat McBriar—the Australian-born punter from last season.

To replace McBriar, the Eagles have added Donnie Jones to the squad. Jones punted for the Texans last season with an average of 47.2 yards per attempt, good for 11th in the league. He has averaged 45 yards per attempt over his nine year career with an all-time high of 50 yards per punt back in 2008.

This certainly isn’t a world shattering move. Jones was a second team all-pro player in 2008 and 2009, but he won’t wow anyone. He’s a quality vet that probably won’t negatively impact games (which is all you want in a punter anyway). As long as he continues around his 47 yard average, then the Eagles will benefit greatly in the field position battle.
