For those of you who didn’t read the title, Thad Young will possibly miss up to three weeks as he recovers  from a grade 1 hamstring strain. The strain occurred when Young dove for a loose ball early last night against the Orlando Magic.

This is bad news for the Sixers, who will now lose their second best player (Bynun not included) when they need him most. The 7-6 are currently three games behind the ailing Boston Celtics for 8th place in the East and had earned a season-long three game win streak last night in their 78-61 victory. Now, with Young out of the line-up, the Sixers will have to replace 15 points and seven rebounds a night while attempting to climb the ladder.

While this is bad news overall, there are two aspects on the bright side.

First, with Thad Young on the sidelines, the Sixers will be able to get a better evaluation of rookie Arnett Moultrie. The 6’11” forward out of Mississippi State has averaged only five minutes a game thus far. His role will almost certainly expand in Young’s absence.

Also, when the Sixers traded for Moultrie, they gave the Miami Heat a protected first round pick. That means the pick will be given away if the Sixers’ pick isn’t a lottery pick from 2013-2015 and will be given to Miami regardless by 2016. Therefore, if they do happen to miss out on the playoffs, they maintain their first rounder for the upcoming draft, which is a good consolation prize. Also, screw the Heat.
