Phillies Wildcard Update pt.2

After taking two of three from the NL Central leading Reds and sweeping the lowly Rockies, the Phillies have raised the wildcard alert from bottomless pit black to yellow. Most importantly, the Phills have been scoring runs on a regular basis–a problem that plagued the team through last season. However, over the last ten games the Phillies have put up 48(!) runs and vaulted themselves back into the heat of the wildcard race. The wildcard picture is after the jump:

So, with 20 games left to play, the Phillies have one game left with the Marlins that takes place at home today at 4:05. Then the remaining series are: Astros (away), Mets (away), Braves (home), Nationals (home), Marlins (away), Nationals (away).

If the Phillies can mange to win 2 out of three in at least four of those series, then I believe they have a decent shot to pull off the upset, but if they hit a brick wall against the likes of Atlanta and Washington in the middle of that stretch, it’s going to be time to put this team out to pasture.

We’ll find out soon enough if they have what it takes.
