Flyers Extend Wayne Simmonds to the Tune of 6 Years, 23 Million
Amidst concerns over defensive depth, the Flyers now have begun shaping their young core by signing right winger Wayne Simmonds through the 2018-2019 season.
Reports say that the deal is going average around $4 million a season, with a a total of around 23 million over those six years–a nice reward for the soon to be 24 year-old who joined the team last year. Brought over with Brayden Schenn in the deal for Mike Richards, Simmonds had a breakout year for the Flyers, achieving carrer highs in goals, points, and time on ice.
The deal comes into effect next season with Simmonds playing this year for $1.75 million on his prior two-year contract. When looking at this upcoming season, this team is going to need to maintain it’s high scoring output if it hopes to compete in a troublesome Eastern Conference, hopefully Simmonds can continue to elevate his game.
